My Therapy Approach

Therapy is a unique and highly individual experience with the outcome determined in

part by your readiness and openness along with your effort and motivation to work

towards the direction you see yourself moving towards, whether that be a change in

yourself and/or how you see the world around you.

Therapy is a relationship that works in part because of clearly defined rights and responsibilities held by each person. This framework helps to create the safety to take risks and the support to become empowered to change.  As a client in psychotherapy, you have certain rights that are important for you to know about because this is your therapy, whose goal is your well-being.

What is Psychotherapy?

A type of therapy used to treat emotional challenges and mental health conditions. It involves talking to a trained therapist, either one-to-one, in a group or with your partner or family.

What to expect?

During therapy we will discuss your concerns and goals for therapy.  I will learn about your needs and throughout our discussions, I’ll be checking in with you to make sure we are working towards goals that are important to you.  Because emotions will be explored, you may feel a range of emotions that can be intense at times. This is part of a normal process and often a large part of the healing work.  While the experience may be “hard” and you may not feel good or entirely comfortable with the feelings you may have, there is nothing wrong or unusual about having them. The hope is that the experience and expression of feelings will bring to the surface the root causes of your concerns and that together we will find ways for you to identify and draw on your abilities, strengths and talents to manage through your challenges and uplift your well-being.

What makes therapy different at SoulBody Healer?

I have training in alternative approaches of therapy and together we will use them, where appropriate, to increase your well-being.  The therapy process could involve cognitive and/or behavioural exercises, breathing exercises, mindfulness exercises, nutrition suggestions, and energy work.  Practices that are done inside and outside of the therapy room and/or as a part of homework.

Together, we will focus on your needs and strengths and develop strategies and skills that fit best with your natural tendencies, abilities, values and goals and that work practically and realistically with your life.  You are essentially bringing forth your soul and are the healer of your body!
